Viral marketing is more of a concept than an actual product,
and it can take many forms. In its essence, it is a method, or
an offer, that allows recipients to receive a message, interact
in some capacity, and then pass that information/offer on to
others who might also be interested in the offer/information. It
can be anything from an “email to a friend” link to “This
message brought to you by Hotmail” or “Earn cash by referring
this offer to your friends and family.” The central advantage to
using viral marketing concepts in your online marketing efforts
is that is costs little-to-nothing to provide campaigns with an
“afterlife,” meaning the bulk of your marketing costs come from
spreading the message to your initial list, then letting them
spread it exponentially from there.
